Watched this awesome TED Talk above today that basically outlines if human beings are biologically wired to be monogamous or not, the short answer is no, we're not wired to be monogamous.
Also it's kinda jarring to know that women are more likely to cheat in relationships than men, a static that's actually been rising. This static is only jarring if we religiously adhere to gender stereotype myths of masculinity meaning promiscuity. Since American females looking to expand their sexual tastes is on the rise, a better question to perhaps be asking is why do so many American females find their personal sex life so unsatisfying, even in a monogamous relationship context? Monogamous relationships, we're all lead to believe, is something women want but not men.
It's safe to propose that perhaps the ultimate reason to stray is outlined in the following The Young Turks report on how lousy American sex really is on average for all of us sexually frustrated Americans:

I, as a feminist, don't believe in Rape Culture or Slut-Shaming because I truly don't believe that it is the male that is the sole sexual aggressor nor do I believe that the male should chronically be the gender left sexually satisfied and smiling while the female is too pissed and sexually dissatisfied to even role over and masturbate herself to sleep. So I chose to examine an exclusively female sexual phenomenon, much thanks to the lecture given by Christopher Ryan above, to justify this opinion.
That phenomenon would be Female Copulatory Vocalization or FCV, most notably brought to the forefront of our culture by the notorious "fake" FCV demonstrated by Meg Ryan in 'When Harry Meet Sally'.

In primates, the FCV is used to not only excite the current sex partner, but FCV frequencies are also used...to entice a potential sex partner. It's really depressing to ruminate on if what was once a purely female dominated sex call almost certainly designed to ensure female sexual fulfillment has now somehow devolved into a way to prematurely end bad and/or painful sex and practically guarantees a less than satisfying sex life for the female. All for the sake of not potentially damaging the frail male ego, and losing your economic protector and provider, because female sexual suppression and financial inequality go hand-in-hand in a patriarch.

Furthermore it's depressing that women were painted as being deceptive and manipulative in a 2010 sex study that basically shows to what lengths women are willing to go to please their sex partners, even in such intimately revealing acts such as sex, at their own expensive of pleasure and personal fulfillment.
